Some of you asked for more information on the prayer that we said prior to our match against Ashland University (Fall 2009). "Lord, You know that which I must do this day. If I forget Thee, please do not forget me." At the time, I said that the prayer was said by British troops prior leaving the trenches to assaulting the German lines. While that is true, it's origins trace back to the English Civil War in the 1600s and was first spoken by Sir Jacob Astley prior to the Battle of Edgehill: "O Lord, Thou knowest how busy I must be this day. If I forget Thee, do not forget me... March on, boys!" Here are some references about the Sir Jacob Astley and the prayer: http://www.british-civil-wars.co.uk/biog/astley.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob_Astley,_1st_Baron_Astley_of_Reading |
